Get to know Indeora, the deodorant inspired by Indian Ayurvedic principles

Indeora creates products to make body care healthier and safer for everyone. All our formulations are inspired by combining a modern clinical approach to ancient Ayur Vedic principles to promote health and wellbeing naturally.

What is your business about, tell us when did it start and what products or services do you offer?

Hearing stories of women being diagnosed with breast cancer really made me question the components of everyday antiperspirant and body care products. My first search for an effective natural deodorant led me to discover many of these were ineffective, inconvenient to apply or irritant towards my skin.

I decided a better solution could be created. Along with my partners work as a medical doctor, he helped with research into the formulation possibilities, focusing on making an effective deodorant product that put well-being as the top priority.

Having grown up in India, he was well accustomed to the principles of Ayurveda, an ancient medical practice that focuses on the use of naturally derived active ingredients to benefit health.

Using our combined research and inspired by Indian Ayurvedic principles, I discovered the benefits of oceanic sourced Magnesium as a base for our first Indeora product and our healthy deodorant was born. Magnesium is a super mineral, responsible for hundreds of functions in our bodies and more importantly, our unique magnesium formulation helps keep you odor free for up to 24 hours.

How are you guys dealing with the pandemic situation?

It is difficult; from the start to the end of March, we were in two very different situations. Indeora had trade shows planned, new products to launch; everything is pushed back now with little way to predict when normality will resume. Sales in stores have obviously fallen due to lockdown but we are lucky to have an amazing distribution team in Indeora that has allowed us to keep processing online orders safely. Like many businesses we are trying to use resources we have in stock, especially as global supply chains have been badly hit.

We have been working with our formulation team on a deep hydrating hand sanitizer that we hope to launch. I could see people’s hands being badly effected and breaking from the increased washing and sanitizing products. Given that chance of skin infections is higher with broken skin, I set this as the main problem to solve in our formulation.

We have been trialing a 75% alcohol sanitizer that has prevented dry out on skin due to its deep epidermal moisture ingredients. Again, we sourced our ingredients, where possible from nature to achieve this. However sourcing ingredients in bulk to manufacture has proven incredibly challenging, along with price volatility on sourcing certain supplies. With every challenge though, there are solutions and we hope when it is ready, to donate 20% to front line staff in care homes and hospitals where we know it is needed most.

Who are your main clients?

Indeora’s customers are simply people who value their health and wish to make better body care choices than what was traditionally offered to them. I think our Vegan customers like many, are extremely educated and want to connect with the products they are using and be reassured of their origin and the values of the brands they purchase from.

How do you see the vegan community in Ireland?

I think the pandemic has reinforced communities everywhere and I have never been more proud to be Irish and see how our little country is coming together. Just on Friday I was able to order a delivery from Buttercream vegan bakery in Dublin and it was great to have a treat to look forward to whilst supporting a local business during the lockdown. I was chatting to someone in New York last week that said you can hardly buy any fresh vegetables right now, which reinforces how grateful I felt to be in Ireland.

We are blessed with so much innovation in our vegan offerings and home-grown products in Ireland, be they in food, body/ skincare and other goods and services.

I think people are appreciating having close access to local suppliers and supporting their local communities and businesses now more than ever before.
